History of the toy
Newton s cradle, named after Sir Isaac Newton, is a device that demonstrates three main physics principles: conservation of energy, conservation of momentum and friction via a series of swinging spheres. Most people think that Isaac Newton invented the apparatus commonly called a Newton s Cradle, but he didn t. English actor Simon Preble invented the device in 1967 and named it in honor of Newton. In 1968 the first portable version hit the market and quickly gained popularity around the world as a fun, educational physics demonstrator.
Newton s cradle is a device that demonstrates conservation of momentum and energy using a series of swinging spheres. When one on the end is lifted and released, it strikes the stationary spheres; a force is transmitted through the stationary spheres and pushes the last one upward. The device is also known as Newton s balls or Executive Ball Clicker.
How to play: Lift one of the 5 steel balls at either end and let it swing back--the ball at the other end will swing out the same distance as the one you lifted, proving the scientific theory and mesmerizing you for hours. Or life two of the 5, it also works. Gallery picture show you details.Fair warning: it s totally addictive! Attention: It is not an item that never stops working. The balls continue in perpetual motion for ONLY 15-25 SECONDS due to the resistance of the air and friction if you know more about the law of energy conservation, you will not ask why.
